Paper talk

Is anyone else driven mad by this?

So far this week I have read that Robin Koch, soon to be ex-Leeds defender, is going to sign for:-
Newcastle united
Tottenham
Manchester United
Eintracht Frankfurt or
Napoli.

Or Rodrigo, who was going to sign for
Everton
Real Madrid
Savilla or
Al Rayyan of Qatar.

I know that it's the silly season, but this is all very silly indeed! They are making half of this up, aren't they?

Well, they've got to fill the column inches somehow!

My particular bugbear at the moment, on any given club Facebook page, is having to wade through copius postings individually listing every player from last season's squad who has decided to return for 2023/24, when all I'm trying to ascertain is if they've actually managed to publicise any pre-season friendlies I might like to attend ....

And it would be even more helpful, when they do, if they'd actually specify the kick-off time ......

I’m sick of it, what with Man Utd apparently being interested in/linked with every player under the sun there’s speculation daily about this godforsaken sale of the club which started in November, dragged on through the Jan transfer window and now we’re in July and it seems still to be no nearer to a conclusion.

On its Sports pages the BBC has a daily column for this. It is titled "Gossip" and it reads like a cross between the Daily Star and the Beano.

I suppose Ossie is right, there are column inches to fill.

Imagine the editorial meeting:

"OK, what have we got?"
"Messi to Halifax Town on a free"
"Good one, well' go wit that. Anything else?"
"Kane to play in central defence for Spurs"
"Like it. Any more?"
"Southgate knows his best squad"
"GET OUT, we'll have no rubbish talked in here."

And Everton can't decide when they are going to start playing at their new ground.

Are they waiting for the balls to be retreived from the Mersey?

  I actually think the first two headlines have more chance of happening than the Southgate one.

I suppose these football ‘journalists’ have got to write about something over the Summer.
