Some sad football news

Postby miasmum » 10 Jul 2021, 19:08

Paul Mariner has passed away. Paul was part of the Ipswich FA cup winning team in 1978 when I fell in love with Ipswich, well I fell in love with George Burley, but the rest is history.

I can still name pretty much that whole team without much thought.

Paul was a brilliant player, had 35 caps for England, which I didn't actually realise and I hope he is honoured tomorrow

I remember Paul Mariner well MM, he always seemed a very happy, upbeat and well liked man.
Slso the 1978 final, played on a scorching hot day. Roger Osborne scored the winner. One of a large family and it was just about his lsst game for Ipswich.
Other names from the depths of time would be Laurie Sivell / Paul Cooper (goalies), Mick Mills, Brian Talbot,John Wark, Kevin Beattie.
