Well done Romain

and to be honest well done Channel 4. I had my doubts but the coverage was actually very good.

Pleased Nico won, amazed Fernando was unhurt and absolutely thrilled for Team Haas and Romain, about time he had a good car.

Shame the Saubers weren't more competitive but their new paint job does make them look like they are sponsored by Aldi

As for Max Verstappen, sorry mate, its called racing, get out there and do it

but my favourite quote of the day Lewis Hamilton, yesterday he wanted a car with a clutch and a gear box, today he was whinging the team weren't allowed to tell him how to turn the alarm on the dash board off

Incredible that Alonso was able to walk out of that crash wasn't it
When I think back to the '70s and it seemed another driver died every week, but I guess that was when they started working more on the safety.

Pleased Haas did well :)

Di, have you seen Alonso's latest quote

Touchingly, speaking after the incident 34-year-old Alonso said he jumped quickly out of the wreckage because he knew his mother was watching at home and he did not want to worry her.

She is obviously as much of a whittle as I am

Yes it is amazing when you think how much safety has improved and that is down to the drivers campaigning for it. Which is what makes me so mad when Lewis Hamilton doesn't want cars made safer because "hey thats the sport" Tell the families of the drivers that have died that Lewis

I thought the coverage was very 'BBC' especially with the screeching Ben "I must mention Hamilton in every sentence" Edwards commentating.

I already knew about Alonso as the dear old BBC put news of the GP on the very front page of its website very early on.

It was a good day for Haas/Grosjean and Renault/Palmer, but not great for F1. Most of the coverage was about who would be the first driver out of the points from cars 8, 9, 10 and 11.

It was very BBC but that's better than being very ITV which is what I thought. Good old Ben 'state the bleedin' obvious' Edwards

As long as there is racing going on and it's not a procession I enjoy it. Plus I did think the Hamilton, Vettel, Ricciardo battle was exciting

Yes I did see, and at the time I said to Bb that someone should have stopped him walking about so much, he was in a complete daze wasn't he :?
Mmm I know you don't like Lewis, but I guess he's talking about the sport as it is now, and about performance not the amazing cages and fireproofing.

I am not a Hammy fan, but his take on the "Halo" agrees with mine.

The design would not have saved Massa or Senna except for a bit of luck. Another design I saw was to extend the air intake over the driver's head with side skirts down to the car body. It was dropped because of the fear of it hindering a driver getting out of a crashed car. A windscreen might help, but they are all half-way house solutions.

This is one of those problems where it is either full canopies or nothing.
