Someone told me tonight, they are proud of the way England have reached the semi finals by playing proper football. For the flipping millions they are paid I should hope they play proper football every week

Well Italy won. Tremendous goal by Chiesa* btw. he is the son of Enrico Chiesa I believe, the Parma and Fiorentina striker of the 90's and he really does look like his dad.
Both teams had chances they didn't take. Spain must be disappointed; they dominated much of the game and mostly shut Italy down.

* Useless information of the day, Chiesa means Church in Italian. :)

Busquets has been my favourite Spanish player for ages - a Pirlo type - but the way the team as a whole plays sends me to sleep.

My big fear for tonight is the 'Eriksen effect'. It has been a big boost for them so far.

Sancho out. No real surprise there as he did little. What Southgate now needs to do is keep Kane high and stop him dropping deep except when we defend corners. Kane needs to keep the two CB 'honest', even if he sometimes drifts offside, as it creates room for the forward midfielders.

ET and pens I reckon.

I would also like to see Shaw can it with the forward, forward, forward, stop, back, back, back, pass it to McGuire or Pickford stuff. He can attack when his head is on right. Not often enough for me, though.

Phew, that was close!

Strange penalty decisions. Kane's was, Sterling's a bit of a dive. Win some, lose some - or vice versa.

With the right formation Italy are there for the taking. Chiellini and Bonucci are brilliant in defence, but old and slow, and we have the means to undo them.

We can do this

We were the stronger team and deserved the win. I never like to see a win achieved by diving though.

Tom Daley thinks you are wrong, Apparently he has been chosen to replace Grealish who is not so good at it. ;)

It's a strange thing. But the combination of traditional English football fan yobbishness, the hysteria of the English media and the virtue signalling and woke political posturing of Gareth Southgate has turned me right off this competition. Win or lose, I don't care.
