I also do not get it.

Maguire and Stones, as a pair, are pretty solid at the back. Supertankers without power mobility wise, but with Rice and Phillips in front, a fairly solid defence.

That's four, plus a goalie, Pickitoutthenet, and diver Harry and you have six starters. An embryonic spine.

Find a foil / partner for Harry and a 'provider' (Bellingham) and you have the spine of a team.

A left-footed defender / wing back might help, as would players who could shoot or put in a cross rather than a pass back or run into a cul-de-sac, as per Grealish, Sterling, Saka etc. with no end result.

Foden, Bowden, Gallagher?

England has the players, but not the nous to play them. If they do not play for the 'big' teams they can largely forget it.
