Dress patterns

I have bought a couple of patterns today. I want to make some dresses suitable for dancing in. I have chosen this pattern as it has a number of neck and sleeve options and I'll use a silky fabric for evening dancing (the shorter length).

And for this pattern I'll use cotton for tea dance dresses.

I'm not sure yet Shell, but I have bought some fabric for the tea dress and have enough for either of the options. A lovely cotton with royal blue poppies on. Sounds odd, but looks lovely :D

They're lovely Loz.

I've always thought of home made (although that should really read "hand made") clothes as being rather twee and a little naff. I remember my mum in law made the girls a pair of matching dresses when they were little and I hated them.

But I am now hooked on the Great British Sewing Bee and some of the things they are making are lovely.

I however, can't sew a straight line so I don't think I will ever be making my own clothes.

I watched that sewing thing for the first time today Debih and loved it.

My prowess with a needle and thread is very limited.

I can sew a button on and that's about it.

I'd love to have the talent to make my own clothes.

 My efforts at CSE Needlework had both myself and my teacher on the verge of tears (not kidding!)   All the women in our extended family are very talented dressmakers except for my mum, my sister and I - the gene totally bypassed us  My Aunty Rose even had her own P/T business making wedding dresses for a while back in the 70s and 80s 8-) She made two of mine :?

Loz they are really pretty, and look ideal for dancing!!!! :D :D

Ally I just bought a lovely cotton tea dress with big roses on it! It's very pretty :) No bovver boots to match though :P
