Thought I'd post this, it's in a local free mag.

Easiest Ever Chutney

1lb/450g dates
1lb/450g sultanas
1lb/450g apples
1lb/450g onions
1lb/450g brown sugar
1pt/470ml malt or spiced vinegar
1 rounded teasp salt
Pepper
A little cayenne to taste
1 rounded teasp mixed spice

Mince or process dates, sultanas, apples and onions - don't puree, stop once chopped.
Place in large non-metallic bowl.
Add sugar, vinegar, salt, pepper, cayenne & mixed spice and stir well.
Leave for 24 hours and stir again.
Pot into sterile jars and leave for a couple of months.

Variations: Add some sherry, rum or brandy. Add some chopped nuts. Add a piece of peeled, grated ginger.

With a few tweaks that sounds like a pretty good mincemeat recipe for late December tartlets. ;) 8-) 8-)
