Being weird, over here, they boil 'em, then eat them with wild boar and other dark meat. With berries, of come sort. We can also get them froxen

or just chuck 'em on the fire and cook them that way - on the bbq???

If they are chestnuts - either peel the tough brown shell off (use small sharp knife), then the rough shin underneath, and eat them raw, or else split the brown shell top to bottom, then roast them. No oil or anything, just roast in an oven.
But I've never done them in an oven, only on an open fire (on a shovel), so would guess errm half a hour? - Google ;) :D

Weka, pierce the shell with a small slit, as Di says, then either 'roast' them on an open fire or in the oven or dry pan fry them - fire is best, pan second.

You could puree them, same as hazelnuts or pickle them. Again, google is your friend. They add a well good flavour to stuffing for a turkey or chicken.

Oh man, they are still in the fridge. I hope they are still ok. Ive just been too busy. But I did look them up, yes they are definitely chestnuts.
No more to be found, so 1 each it will be.

They are shiny.

Shiny is good.

If you do oven-roast chestnuts at any time, always remember that they must be pierced first.
A friend of ours once forgot, and when they all exploded, virtually simultaneously, it was like a World War II gun barrage in the kitchen!!!

Weka, we buy bags of chestnuts for Christmas from the supermarkets, around 30 or 40 nuts at a time, probably. Sometimes you can buy small packets of freshly roasted chestnuts from street vendors who operate those small mobile ovens, just like you can buy baked potatoes, although you don't see so much of that on the streets these days.

We can also get tinned shelled chestnuts at Christmastime; we use them as a side-dish with the Christmas turkey (although they aren't quite as nice as fresh ones).
