Hairy Dieters strike again!

Another winner :D
Bb stopped off at Waitrose on the way home just in case there were any good bargains (I've taught him well!) and came back with 500g of turkey mince for 75p :lol:

I knew I'd seen a recipe using it in one of the Hairy Dieters books and sure enough - turkey burger with chips, for 313 calories each :D
It used 500g of the mince, to make 8 burgers serving 4, so we have 4 for another day :)
They mixed it with leek and courgette, neither of which I had, so instead used a little red onion plus garlic, chilli, ginger, lime zest & juice, and a splash of light soy. More like Thai-spiced patties, and blooming lovely!
The chips are 475g of potato for 4, I had one weighing 220g. Just cut in wedges and toss with a teaspoon (half) of oil, paprika, salt & pepper, then bake.

You could also sub the potato for a pitta bread each (check the cals on those, Lidl's are only 140cals each). Or make smaller patties and have lettuce wraps with a small amount of rice, all sorts of possibilities :D

That's how I make my chips - I've never, ever owned a chip fryer.

Cut into wedges, sprinkle with oil and shake paprika or a spicy shake- -or whatever shakey mood I'm in on the day. :lol: :lol:

I love the hairy bikers recipes. :D

I've made about the same lots of times, with pork or chicken mince usually (Nigel does them too, so they must be good!) but had never worked out the calories, although realised they'd be pretty low.
The beauty of their dieters books is that the cals are all done for you :)

Oh yes we have 'chips' like these anyway, sometimes par-boiled first, although we do have bought oven chips sometimes too. We don't have either very often though, we just don't have the right kind of meals :)

Mercadona's oven chips are so rank I'm more than happy to make my own. :lol:

I think that I prefer your Thai-spiced version Di, they are much more to my taste.

I can also do without the chips - of any sort. I have got used to eating things such as grilled food with a sweet leaf salad, slices of tomato, radishes, raw onion rings and so on. :D :D :D

We don't seem to eat many potatoes, so sometimes there are quite a few to use, other times just one or two that I plan on using (Shepherds pie or whatever) so we need a frozen supply :)

Yeah, theirs sounded good but tbh you can't disguise turkey mince as beef and it has quite a strong flavour. They do add flavourings as well, but even if I'd had the courgette etc I'd have probably ended up with my version.

These kind of patties - or indeed mince of any kind fried over high heat (drained unless it's very lean, it really doesn't want to be fatty for this), with chilli/spring onion/garlic/ginger etc is lovely in lettuce, with bits of raw salad veg added, then dipped in chilli sauce. And the 'proper' homemade Thai chilli dipping sauce too, boiling chillies with water, sugar, vinegar but still eye-wateringly hot :D Cucumber essential :D

It really is yum Debih, and with turkey you get to have quite a lot of meat - it's definitely not like a 'diet' meal :D

I think I might just try those Di, I love turkey. I make wedges like that too 8-) :D
