I got a great bargain in Sainsbury's, a gorgeous orange cast iron casserole - only £19.99 in the sale! Only problem was I was on foot and had to lug it home, and it was heavy!! :P

I'm christening it tonight with a beef, mushroom and red wine casserole..............it smells gorgeous :D

does a magnet stick to the base of it? :D 'cause I'm thinking of replacing my hob with an induction one at some point but most of the pots I have now won't work on it. And it sounds a real bargain

That casserole sounds yum; a bit more detailed recipe please? ;) as it sounds like something great for the slow cooker as well

I haven't got a magnet :?

It was 500g of diced braising steak, browned with two sliced onions in some oil, then added a box of chopped tomatoes, half a small punnet of sliced mushrooms, a good helping of mixed herbs and a ginormous glug of shiraz. Oh and some water, about a cup full, as I didn't have any stock cubes

Two and a half hours on 160 degrees C, then thickened with some gravy granules, and put back for twenty minutes. We had a small jacket spud each with it, but I think next time I would add tiny baby new potatoes to the casserole :)

sounds yummy.

Not sure why but I really struggle with getting the flavours of casseroles right. Either one flavour totally overpowering or everything rather bland which I then try and fix; which can be a bit hit and miss at times

I'm a bit of a bung it in and hope for the best merchant myself, but this was really nice. Instead of gravy granules, if you used a stock cube I think it would have thickened up nicely with flour, but it needed the granules without  ;)

Those Sainsburys casserole dishes are lovely Kaz, what a bargain :)
I have one, in a beautiful shade of blue, that I lugged home from France :D  It was sooooo much cheaper than Le Creuset how could anyone resist?!
Very heavy though, I only use it occasionally but for large mounts it can't be beaten, the meals cooked in it really do taste extra good :)

Toss the meat with flour seasoned with salt, black pepper and mixed herbs before browning it Kaz, it browns better and thickens it too ;) :)
Or you can add mustard powder, or paprika, or ground ginger, to the flour :)

We have a Le Creuset outlet here, but even so they are out of my price range   I also looked in the other cook shops in the outlet, but even in there they were £30 plus - so I am delighted with this one 8-) :D

No red ones left though which was a shame, as the accents in my kitchen diner - kettle, toaster, blind - are red, but you can't have everything ;)

ETA I will do that Di, with the flour :D

Don't talk to me about matching kitchen appliances.

Until 10.40am this morning my lovely WHITE toaster matched all my other lovely WHITE kitchen appliances.

10.41am this morning the toaster went kaput!

I get home from work and what has Don done?!

Bought a CREAM!! toaster.

CREAM!!

CREAM????!!!!!
