Never done this before..and not flippin likely to again either...but is it possible to put icing in a piping bag and ice a message?

Will the icing set in the bag before I've finished?

What consistency is needed?

If I ice the message a couple of days before the party will the icing still taste fresh?

Does anyone posses the telephone number of the Samaratins?

Is lunchtime really too early for a large vodka? :?

Practice, practice, practice before you do it on the actual cake.

That way you will get the consistency just right and be happy with how it looks before you do it on the cake.

No, the icing won't set in the bag before you finish - unless it takes you a few days.

You need a really thin nozzle or just cut a tiny hole in the piping bag if you don't have the nozzle.

The icing wants to be pretty thin so it comes out smoothly - but practice to get it just right.

You don't need to throw the icing away after you have practised - just do it onto a plate and then scrape it up and put it back in the bag.

Watch this - it should help.

If in doubt, drink lots of vodka and just go for it!

This worked for me for water icing or chocolate:

Write your words in pencil on a sheet of greaseproof paper then tape it to a chopping board. Give it a dusting of icing sugar.

Pipe out the words with your "icing" and leave it to settle for a few mins.

Place the board with the greaseproof and icing in the freezer and let it set/freeze.

You can sometimes lift the frozen icing directly off the greaseproof using a metal spatula or thin knife and carefully lift the writing onto the cake.

If not, untape the greaseproof from the board and slide it till the writing reaches the edge then with a downward motion of the paper peel the icing off onto your worktop.

Tip: it is never to early for vodka, esp the flavoured ones.

It's not difficult, honest.
Just sieve icing sugar into a bowl, add water (hardly any - look online for glace icing), mix till smooth, put into bag - a plastic bag with a tiny corner snipped off is fine.
Now get some biscuits and practise writing :) That's how I learnt, on digestive biscuits, while my mum was icing a cake ;)

Digestives and vodka? That is wrong on so many levels. :-P

You can practice by writing rude words on biscuits.

And then give them out at the party.
