My mum had about half a dozen meals that she cooked in rote - my dad knew what he was getting for his tea by the day of the week   She made scrumptious puddings though - lovely cakes, crumbles, steamed puds etc and we did grow our own veg and a lot of soft fruit too.....

I get phases when I enjoy cooking, which come and go, but can cook fairly well when I put my mind to it :) I am a bit like that with some things, I start well but get bored  ;) I baked a lot when I was younger but now I have weight issues I don't, too tempting, I don't have your willpower Di, if it was there I would eat it

That makes sense about freezing the meat and gravy portions, I was all set to freeze the remaining half until M scoffed it  ;) Oh and I only had one end slice off that bread!! :P I would have been awake all night if I'd eaten more of it ;)

Ginger sounds interesting, the recipe would be great thanks - I love Mary, her recipes seem so simple and 'do-able' and I remember well watching her cake baking on telly all those years ago :)
