The EU tells us that if we don't pay their extra subsidy, then we'll have trouble with our rebate?

Really?

Time for them to wake up and smell the coffee. The UK is now the second largest net contributor. If we pay this extra, due to our economic success, then we will be much closer to Germany than ever before. To the tune of nearly €9 Billion Net.

So, let me see if I can articulate this.

We don't pay the extra.

They don't pay the subsidy.

We don't pay any more until they do.

They lose nearly €8 Billion.

I always knew they couldn't count....

On the good side, Cameron can't crawl out of this one. If he folds he'll lose even more MP's as they rush to resign and stand for re-election. At some point it will be one straw too many and the coalition camel will collapse.

On the even better side, if Cameron doesn't cave, he won't be able to re-negotiate in the EU because nobody will work with him. Just showing everyone exactly how little say we have in the EU.

On the hilarious side this has happened because the ONS kept on producing artificially low economic figures to make the government bad. Figures which had to be revised up over and over again. Hence the end of year price tag. We've underpaid all year because the ONS is political. Bet they didn't see that one coming...
