I have decided that David Rose

Is just a lying troublemaker.

Sunday he put out an article stating that there has been a 60% recovery in Arctic sea ice this year and tries to weave it into his belief that human driven climate change is a myth.

Well he's a D1ck and he has way too much influence with people who'd rather just sweep it under the carpet. The Telegraph picked up on it too and now we have millions of people who think they have a valid reason to ignore good science.

Not only was there no "recovery", but what is going on up there is causing absolute havoc with northern hemisphere weather. The whole thing is still going and it is nowhere near finished yet. Even on Sept 10th. The true story will come out in October and November. But by then the lies, intended to keep people ignorant, will have done their work.

2012 was an exceptional year in every way. Not reaching or beating 2012 was not a "recovery". Beating every year but 2007-2012 is also NOT a recovery. It's an unmitigated disaster given the weather that was up there this year.

In the end it's not even worth going on the websites and explaining what a bunch of knobs they have been. It just means I'm going to have to put up with the smirks of "told you so" by people who were just looking for any excuse to deny what is really happening. Thanks SO much David Rose. I hope I can return the favour some day....

Honestly, this is NOT an improvement...

The extent (cover) of the ice might be greater, but that is not a recovery. It is the thickness and overall volume which is a measure of recovery, and that is still on a downward trend.

Of course there will be variations from week to week, month to month, year to year, even decade to decade, but to pin anything concrete on one observation is criminally bonkers..... and that works for both sides.

The trends for polar ice volumes are decreasing and for global temperatures are increasing. That is what the science says from thousands of observations taken from all parts of the globe.

1.7 billion for temperature records alone at the last count.

Hundreds of millions of ice records.

billions of core records....

ONE observation that it's all ollocks.....

Yes, but thanks to its position in the media that one observation has a reach of millions in one go. They in turn, via Chinese whispers, have a reach of further millions. And because the solutions to the problem(s) require tough decisions and choices the millions are more receptive to the "It'll be alright" brigade.

Maybe when the Maldives, Miami and the Florida Keys, and some South Pacific island nations become inundated - as is already happening - people will wake up.

They still don't care.

It took Sandy, mulitiple EF5 tornado's and a truly massive wildfire season, all in one 5 year window, to wake some Americans up. But, sadly, if this sits and simmers for a year or two, they'll go back to "It's a big planet, how could we possibly change it".

We're not trying to stop it rotating, we're just playing with the chemistry a bit. Unfortunately for humans, the livable habitat is within a 6C window. We were in the middle and so we only had 3c to play with. Now we're 1C up and only have 2C more to play with before it stops being a livable habitat.

The changes already in train (30 year lag for CO2), ensure we will see that 2C change and that is WITH reductions planned but not implemented.

Unfortunately David Rose probably won't live to stand trial..... People who are struggling for survival are notably short tempered and also prefer direct action....
