Assisted suicide, again.

We should be able to discuss this. The bill passed today, but it is not law. It has divisions, committees and consultations to go through and many, many, amendments in the HoL and HoC before it becomes law - if ever. Two or three years down the line, maybe.

We should not be afraid of discussions or disagreements; just saying.

Yes WM we should I did start a thread at dinner time but then thought it was to sensitive an d delated it
I do NOT call it assisted suicide by any means
I personally think every person has there own right
To make their decision on how they end there life
Yes there are huge problems in how this decision are made an d very difficult ones as well when my husband died my eldest so n and i had had to discuss his future and made them on knowing his wishes so to speak they where entirely our decision then I had to ring Scarlett dad to tell him next morning because we could not reach him at 4in the morning he said it was a right decision be it very hard if never regret it xx
And I do not need the government to tell me what to do altho some guide lines are needed

In general principle, I do agree with you, Saundra; I believe everyone should have their own say over the time and method of their passing.
The actual "mechanics" of the bill are of course a different matter, and many will be unhappy with them, but I think they are fair enough - especially the crucial requirement to self-administer at the end.

Just to say that D, having been a MacMillan nurse for years, is very much in favour of this bill. She's nursed many people through their final illnesses, and in her words pain relief meds do not work properly for everyone......

Yes there are huge problems

There isn't really a 100% "right" decision is there?
I would like the chance to die a painless death if possible; on the other hand some vulnerable people will be pressured into ending their own life, for sure.
So I suppose that I support the bill, but only just.

ps sorry for the long silence. I decided to have a little break but time got away from me.
