Drug and drink driving roadside ban

Not quite. Currently those who give a positive on the hand-held breathalyser are taken to the station and give two more sample on sensitive and calibrated equipment or bloods if it is a drug test. If they fail those they go to the magistrates for a ban and points, but in the meantime can still drive.

Under the new proposals, if they fail at the station, they would get an immediate ban and then go to the magistrates to find out the length of the ban and number of points - a subtle difference.

I am not against that.

Totally reasonable, in my opinion.

If the equipment in the police station says you are over the limit, it should mesn immediate disqualification. The length and cost to be decidied by the courts.

Car taken to a compound and only released after payment. This would be in addition to the fine and other costs.

I'm good with that too.

If people do not feel the pain of what they do they will never stop doing it.
