Postby cromwell » 18 Sep 2023, 14:20

The American military have lost a stealth fighter.
The pilot bailed out but the plane just kept a-going.

Yes I saw that, was news yesterday. One thing is sure, it didn't have enough fuel to keep running till now.

Apparently the plane has extremely good Stealth capability. Which means civilian radar won't even see it and the transponder was off.

Lost of bizarre things happen with new planes.

The F-35b is not new, it has been in service for over eight years.

There was a video showing the ejection. The aircraft was in a descending flight and the ejection was at about 200 metres. It cannot have "flown" much further and the location of the video taker will be known, as was that of the recovered pilot.

Except it didn't nose in and tear the local world apart. So they really want to find it.

The rate of descent was shallow from about 200m, so it could not have gone far. The phone location will have been known from GPS, as will that of the pilot. The direction of travel will have been triangulated from those two things. The search area will be known.

It's a bit of a non-story on a slow news day.

I think they've now found it in a field somewhere.

A debris field, I heard.
Eighty miles north of it's base.

Cruiser I think if the travellers turned up at a scrapyard with an F-35 on the back of the wagon, eyebrows would be raised!

I think the US DoD takes a little more care with secret weapons systems than that..
