Another problem for wind farms!

Reports are coming out that Russia has a fleet of ships disguised as trawlers or research vessels spying on North Sea wind farms and their infrastructures with intent to disable them in times of conflict.

This has alway been a big concern for me.

These wind farms cover hundreds of square kilometres in area and with thousands of windmills in total many kilometres offshore. They are almost impossible to protect in any meaningful way. Sure, we could survive the loss of a few individual windmills, but it would not be possible to survive the loss of some of the few hundreds of inter-connected transformers they are connected to nor the even fewer main cables bringing the power ashore.

We may see them having a few "accidents" over time. Subliminal messaging you know. Sort of "give it up or we'll sink them all".

Accidents are accidents, they do happen. Sabotage / destruction by an enemy are not subliminal nor accidents, they are real - they want to take us out. How do we stop them?

We do not have the navy nor air force to protect our wind farms, and if they are taken offline we are screwed - electrical power wise. The Russians know this, shame we seem to have missed it. Net zero, eh?

I was talking about the fleet of "trawlers" having the odd "accident". After all they do have them at sea, everyone knows about it.

So, how do we stop them having oher "accidents" with our transformers and cables?

Oh, we can't. Our 50% or so power, when the wind blows, is very vulnerable to disruption from adversaries, and there is little we can do to stop them.

Without electrical power we are screwed.

We need to think of other sources.
