They believe we don't care

Postby Suff » 07 Jun 2022, 12:52

And they are right.

We have been bombarded with atrocities across the US, schools, hospitals, crazy people running amok with guns.

Today we get a news article about a church being attacked in Nigeria. More than 50 parishioners shot dead.

Why did we hear about it? Not because of the scale of the attack, which was massive, but because it was a church. Which will outrage the western world.

If you look further down the article you see.

About 3,000 people were killed by armed groups in Nigeria in the first three months of 2022, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

How many of those did you hear about? Really, we don't care unless it is something to upset the sensibilities of the chattering classes.

Of course we care, but it has always been the case that big events get the most reportage. Had it happened in the town square or a railway station the reports would have still come in and we would still be dismayed.

It is a fact, sadly, that there are not enough column inches to cover every single atrocity from around the globe, and if there were we would probably become numb to them - it's the human condition.

The media controls what is reported.
Indian politician "insults Islam" and it's on the TV news and all over the papers.
Christians being massacred in Nigeria by Muslims? Dead silence.
The Telegraph did a small piece on the massacres a while since but that's about all.

I know "we" care WM. But our institutions don't really.

One black American citizen gets killed by a white cop and we've got demonstrations all over the UK and statues being ripped down.

3,000 black Nigerians get murdered by other black Nigerians? Silence.

Really. Black lives matter? The evidence of the world says it ain't so.
