"Nine in 10 workers must reskill."

So says the CGI's Dame Carolyn Fairbairn..
To do what? She does not say, but she does say it will cost us £13bn a year for all this retraining.
We already know that automation is going to decimate the low-skills markets, so she has come up with the idea that: "The right skills strategy can help every worker to progress their careers, drive up living standards and level-up the country"
What are these "right skills" and where are these new job coming from? You see those are the tricky questions and she does not have the answers. It all sounds like a "seen to be saying something" exercise, but with no meat on the bones.
90% is massive and we will still need bin men, delivery drivers, bus drivers, pilots, doctors and nurses, police, fire fighters, solicitors, builders...... just what the hell are the rest of us going to "upskill" to - veg pickers, perhaps?
