Some serious (I use the term lightly) news outlets have run helpful in-depth articles on the problem such as 'How to keep cool in a heatwave', seven tips for getting to sleep in a heatwave, but the BBC topped the lot with the 'top ten tips for a good night's sleep on tropical nights'.

Upcoming blockbusters include: safety tips for doing up velcro fastening shoes; pull-cord light switches for beginners and how to fill an electric kettle without electrocuting yourself. They all include helpful diagrams and videos.

The BBC reported earlier, 'clearly the sun has come out and Downing street have done nothing to prevent it.'

More seriously, the BBC was very quick to "blame" the rail disaster in Aberdeenshire yesterday on Network Rail and the operating company Scottish Rail (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) running the train, when it was patently obvious that it was the fast deteriorating weather situation that created the scenario for the accident. I shall be very interested to see the formal RAIB and Police Scotland reports in due course.

You know, I do sometimes wonder if all this is accidental?
For years I have felt that the ruling classes in the UK don't want people with bright, inquiring minds. People who think.
They seem to want to just hold up ideas in the way of "This is what it is right for you to believe - leave the rest to us"; and it has worked, it seems to me.
We have touched on this subject many times, but the number of people in society now who jump on someone else's point of view whilst being completely unable to explain their own; who seem to be unable to rationalise, to debate, to provide evidence and reasoning.
To to let everyone else do your thinking for you.
I have seen this many times on our local FB page. There was one post that went something like this:-

Q "Does anyone know anywhere near here that does caravan storage?"
A. "Yes, the farmer just past the railway bridge does".
Q "Thank you. How much do they charge, do you know?"
A "I don't know, I haven't used them myself but my friend did and they were happy. The farmer's phone number is 123456"
Q "Thank you. Do you know what would be the best time to call them?"

And so on, and on, and on.
Why not just ring up and find out for yourself? But they wanted to be spoon fed every last little bit of information without getting off their bum.
And there have been dozens of posts just like it.

Nearly every article starts with: How do I; How will; Can I get, How can I; How not to; How to; Who should? Thereafter follows the most basic, primary school, Ladybird version of what, when, where, who and how.

The headline article is 'Where can I go on holiday without having to quarantine?'. It then goes on to tell where one can or cannot go. Yes, it mentions the 14 day self-isolation on return and the fines for not doing so, but it also give tips on how to avoid s-i such as:

You don't need to self-isolate if you travel through a non-exempt country, as long as you don't stop in the country to get out of the car and no one else gets in.
Or if you are on public transport, you are exempt from quarantine if no new passengers get on while in the non-exempt country and no passenger mixes with people outside or enters a public space at a stop.

Nowhere does it say: "Don't be an arrogant, self-entitled, snowflake bonehead, stay at home and stay safe for all our sakes.", which is the message that should be being sent out loud and clear during a worldwide pandemic.

And don't get me started on all the articles full of effusive sympathy for those caught up in a mess of their own making. Poor little things, they went on a holiday because they "are worth it" and now the government has closed the door as it said it would many times "at any time" and "without warning" after putting Spain on the list that has been in place for months.

FFS! Jump in the car, drive over and have a look! Get the agents phone no from the board, ring them up and find out for yourself!

My Brother was trying to tell me I should buy an Echo. I asked, can I rename it dipshit. No he said. Scratch one echo as the only reason for getting one is denied me....

As for TV news, long, long gone are the days when I had to listen through the drivel they wanted me to hear before I could hear what I was interested in. Advanced information seeker, I go where the news is and surf for what I want. The concept of getting an echo and the telling it to read the same news as I've been ignoring on the TV, is not appealing, yet millions of people seem to think this is the way to go because they don't have to put any effort into it.

This brave new world that people insist on inhabiting appears to be a very old dreary world of town cryers and being dependent on others for things you could easily do yourself.

I use Reuters and AP as well as the main outlets from the English speaking world. I also do the English versions of the likes of Le Figaro, El Pais, DAZ as well as Al Jaz and RT.

Not had the knock on the door in the midnight hour as yet, though some CTs keep telling me it is bound to happen.
