Putting two and two together

Postby Suff » 05 Jul 2016, 07:35

I just read the BBC article on Erdogan talking about giving Syrians living in Turkey citizenship.

Wouldn't this be a perfect fix for him?

Complete the negotiations with the EU.
Allow Visa free travel and work for Turkish citizens.
Give 3M Syrians Turkish citizenship and visa free access to the EU.

Problem solved.

Or do I just have a bad mind???? I had already wondered about this but didn't say it out loud because it would seem like I was losing it to inner demons..

A mind boggling thought. I guess that masses could have come here if the Remain idiots had had their way :(

A lot of member states do it too though it seems only for rich people.

They tightened up a bit a few month later after EU pressure.

Yep but remember the campaign and the "Turkey will never gain accession to the EU"?

Well they don't need to do they. All they need is guaranteed visa free access. Then they can give the 3M Syrians passports and it's a done deal...

I always saw this as a risk of what the EU were negotiating but it was never part of my reason for Bexit. I'm much more concerned about the EU as a country and the impossibly undemocratic institutions.

If Turkey gets visa free travel, most Turks who come to Europe will head straight for Germany.

And that will make for very interesting times indeed. Whether Merkel would win an election after x million Turks pitch up in Germany is a very moot point. Euroscepticism is on the rise in Europe, and letting millions more poor people from a Muslim country walk straight in is going to go down very badly, especially in eastern Europe.

That's a bit unkind, Pederito. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion and to vote accordingly.
Because they have not voted the same way as you does not make them idiots.

I understand your views and how you might feel, but some things are surely better left unsaid.

Yeah but that's just about the 1060,000 reallocation of the 1.5m who already arrived. Nothing to do with the agreements that Turkey is making with the EU over Visa free access to the Schengen zone for Turkish citizens..

Hungary is not in Schengen so it would not bother them quite so much, but many countries, like the UK, allow people with EU access to apply for citizenship after a few years...
