Re Starmer.

He certainly does, but the common people want more, they want a bit of vim and humour and that is not his personality. Angela Raynor is not my cup of tea but that is what she offered when she tore Boris a new one the other day.

Time for a Raynor-Starmer hybrid. ;)

There have been horrendous mistakes made by the Government but to be fair, no Prime Minister in living memory has ever faced such a catastrophe with weeks of taking office. The whole of the blame seems to have landed on the head of Boris which I think is grossly unfair. I hope, as promised, he does get Brexit done. It may be his salvation but I am not holding my breath.

I agree with most of this Meds.
Yes it is unfair that Boris gets 100% of the blame but that's the name of the game; the man at the top is where the buck stops.
I think the biggest problem Johnson has is the one he has always had - the amount of enemies he has within his own party. The Conservatives have just been through a bruising few years - three Prime Ministers in four years and bitter Brexit in fighting that resulted in the expulsion of former Tory big hitters like Hammond and Grieve. There are still more remain MP's than leave MP's in the party too.
The Conservative Parliamentary Party has no great love of Johnson, I think. Theresa May was a bit of a disaster. She lost the Conservative majority that Cameron had won, made a Horlicks of Brexit and was in very grave danger of losing the next election - so she was forced out.
The Conservatives are a ruthless bunch like that and in a way Boris has already served his purpose - he won an 80 seat majority in the last election but if they think he will lose the next one (and tying his colours to the mast of Whitty and Vallance is doing him no favours) the parliamentary party will force him out just like they did with Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher before him.

Not sure I would call them the same. Blair was ruthless, hard driving and didn't care who had to be thrown under the bus to get what he wanted.

Boris?

A person doing his best to do a job that he would never have stood up for if he had foresight of what was to come.

Starmer?

A consumate politician.

I've said this several times and it is ignored every time.

In the UK, today, with devolved assemblies and governments, Boris is accountable for English Health only.

He is advised by a cabal of idiots, erm, I mean grandstanding specialists, erm, sorry, Scientific experts. Then he has a parliament, fresh from creating mayhem for 3 years, who think that whatever they say should be the way we should go and none of them can even offer a sensible and coherent approach to a pandemic which has no answer.

Would you sign up? Yes he is doing his best, walking in a minefield, blindfolded, led by people who simply want him to step on every mine they can find.

Starmer would do NO better, probably worse and would never have the level of backing Boris has with his current majority.

So, yes, I'm serious. All the gaggle of contenders, telling the world that Boris is doing a bad job, have absolutely NO idea what they hell they would be doing in his place. Otherwise they would have a coherent plan to do something else.

They are past masters at heckling though.

Where to begin?

A cabal of idiots eh?

Sir Patrick John Thompson Vallance FRS FMedSci FRCP, professor at UCL Medical School and holder of a Bachelor of Science degree a Bachelor of Medicine degree and Bachelor of Surgery degree. An obvious idiot.

Professor Chris Whitty CB FRCP FFPH FMedSci Hon FRCPCH Hon FFPM educated at Pembroke College, Oxford (BA in Physiology, DSc in medical science), Wolfson College (BM BCh in Medicine, 1991), London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (DTM&H in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1996; MSc in Epidemiology, 1996), Northumbria University (LLM in Medical Law, 2005), Heriot-Watt University (MBA in Business Administration, 2010), and the Open University (DipEcon in Economics). What a bloody moron.

Both of the above appointed by their relevant professional bodies.

Then we get the real cabal of idiots.

Dominic Cummings: Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, BA in Ancient and Modern History.

Appointed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Then there is the Cabinet of 22 Ministers, most of them with PPE's.

Appointed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Then the government's Coronavirus Act 2020: an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that grants the government emergency powers to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. It gives the government discretionary powers over areas of life such as the National Health Service, social care, schools, police, Border Force, local councils, funerals and courts and to introduce temporary laws without recourse to parliament.

The above gives the Prime Minister and Cabinet free rein to act without any parliamentary approval.

He is in charge.

If he is "doing his best" then it is light years short of what is needed.

What Starmer, Corbyn et al would do is neither here nor there: they are not in power. Calling them out is just 'whatiffery' and straw manning.

Ah,

So it is OK to say Starmer is a wonderful guy and so much better than Boris, but it is not OK to say that it is incorrect to land the entirety of the Covid issue at Boris' door.

It is, apparently OK to wilfully ignore the constantly repeated fact that Boris is not responsible for Scottish, NI or Welsh Covid action. However he is responsible for keeping the whole UK running whilst 3 First ministers run amok with the rest of the UK.

I wonder what kind of disaster Labour could inherit in 2024??

Then perhaps we could see.

Deflection no longer works. I think that you will find from my posts that I am not a big Starmer fan. And you will have difficulty in finding anything from me regarding Scotland, Wales or NI and Covid.

However, what you will find is me laying the entirety of the Covid issue IN ENGLAND, firmly at the door of Johnson and his sycophants because that is where it lies. See my previous post for details.

Mind you, it is nice of you to recognise that disaster awaits in 2024 and that it will be down to those currently in charge: Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson and the Tories. Good night.
