Well now, The Electoral Commission has raised concerns about British Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities and voting fraud. The report also found voters feel postal voting was "unsafe" and concerns were also raised about an "informal approach" to proxy voting.

Sort of flies in the face of what politicians want.

As for the percentages v seats won. It has been known since forever that there is no correlation whatsoever between the two for the simple reason that we have FPTP and not proportional representation. Any attempt to make x % = y seats is nothing more than a best guess.

I also see that Sky and the BBC are trying to outdo each other with election coverage. They not only have countdown to the election proper, but countdowns to the campaigns starting. If people re not already put off by politics they will be come voting day!

I dare! If a person is not a UK citizen, either by birth or taking up UK citizenship, they should not be allowed anywhere near a ballot paper for any type of government elections. I would add that even if they have taken up citizenship, but do not have sufficient understanding of the English language to be able to comprehend the issues, they should also be disbarred.

Personally I think I'd go with that. If they don't understand then they aren't really voting "for" something are they?

Well, seeing as how you started it ....

I think we are way too quick to give citizenship to migrants. The residence criteria for application is basically 5 years or 3 if married to a Brit; on top of that it's just good character (Russian oligarch), referees (local Imam) and that stupid "Life in the UK" test (which I would probably fail  ).

My own view is that we should stop granting citizenship to anyone born outside these shores, period. Leave to stay, yes, reviewed every 10 years, say, but citizenship with voting rights, no.

Certainly I think this whole "survive in the UK for 5 years without getting booted" and then have the "right" to ask for citizenship has to stop.

When will the authorities in the UK realise that there are 7 billion people in the world and that a large chunk of 4 billion of them see the UK as a desirable residence. The UK is an island and finite in size, space and resources. We should conserve that space and those resources or people who haven't yet worked out that modern medicine means they don't need 10 kids will take us over and turn Britain into the same kind of mess they were trying to leave...
