I think that therein lies a big part of the problem. I often see parents, mainly mums, out with their children and they seem to be mainly concerned with their mobiles or tablets. Conversations, where we learned lots of things informally, have almost disappeared.

If the subjects in question have to be taught in schools I would prefer for them to be done in an informal way. Maybe a period could be set aside for conversation where a teacher may, for example, bring in a newspaper or magazine and choose an article to discuss, but one which has one of the subjects at its core.
