What do you think of this............

I know what our Kate will think --- the same as me.

We've nearly reached the bottom of the cesspit.

P.S. These are comments the girl's mother received. ‘As a teacher, I will say very bluntly how sick and f****** tired I am of parents like you who think they are experts on all f****** areas of the curriculum.’
Another said: ‘This really, really p***** me off .  .  . I teach and have had half-***ed complaints from parents on occasion .  .  . What really boils my p*** is people having opinions about things they haven’t even read and certainly don’t understand.’

I think this is absolutely shocking. English literature studies are supposed to look into the beauty of the English language and its origins.

I don't know what they think they are doing choosing something like this to study, I really don't. Haven't we enough good literature suitable for study without dredging up something like this.

As for the teacher - she should be sacked immediately.

I agree that the subject matter is unacceptable and should be withdrawn, but....

Why did the mother complain to Mumsnet? Is it because she is running a campaign to get government to put age controls on appropriate language used in schools and wanted sympathy and support? Is there any evidence that the profane remarks are actually from teachers? Why is the Mail brining this up now when the story is two months old already?

Good questions. There is usually something that doesn't ring quite true.

I agree with your first post Rodo - there is no need for this kind of language or level of aggression - there should be no place for it in our education system.

I'm not sure if this mother has an agenda or not, TBH I don't really care, this kind of language has no place in the classroom....

I remember when the hippy teacher movement became popular in schools, no Sir or Miss, it was Fred with his un-washed shoulder length hair, very popular with the younger generation. This was late 50's early 60's. I remember when visiting a
School a female teacher asked a pupil whether he had got a fag!! The rot was beginning to set in and it has not improved.
A teacher friend of mine was so disgusted she resigned her post.
We also had the law come in where teachers were not allowed to touch or hold a distressed child.
Good teachers and we had many of them just gave up..

The trouble is that our society has become far too tolerant of filth.

The person with a twisted mentality who wrote this filth should have been sent to serve
a custodial sentence of at least 12 months on a sewage farm, together with the publisher.

The singer who likewise used F words in the Albert Hall (I forget his name, but I'll never
buy a CD of his) should have had his career ended forthwith. There was no excuse for it.

This country will never be fit to bring up children in until we start to punish those who wish
to contaminate it.

Parents: For God's sake, and for the sake of your children,
please make your views known to teachers at your child's school that you
will not tolerate the lowering of standards of decency, and that you will
unrelentingly hound them if they do.

Never underestimate People Power.

A nice idea Aggers, but it will never catch on, sadly.

Today's parents are the children of parents who were themselves victims of the great educational experiment of the 60s and 70s. They are as likely to march to school demanding the head, the teacher and the governors be hung, drawn and quartered for disciplining little Johnny or little Jane. They know of no other method and have been taught that the ones used "in the old days" were bad.

I still read the comments in the Times Ed Supplement and other education sections of newspaper and they are full of pop psychological gobbledegook from parents and teachers alike. Discipline can apparently carried out so long as nobody is punished, and negotiation is better than sanctions or removing privileges.
