Lola, L-O-L-A Lola

Girls will be boys, and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world
Except for Lola.

And we have now gone from lyrics to reality.

There is an uncomfortable case in the current news where a young girl of 14 went to a clinic to transgender and at the age of 16 began treatment unknown to her parents. He(?) now wants to change back and is taking the clinic to court over the assessment process and the psychological profiling.

Well quite. These mind games people are playing around with people's lives and they are currently looking a toddlers as young a three!

Humans have been going through puberty for millions of years and it is an uncomfortable time, a very uncomfortable and confusing time, for many of them so much so that it tips some of them over the edge...

This young girl was obviously having a tough time of things and that is all the more reason why she should have not made the decision. The psychiatrists and psychologist should have supported her through puberty and out the other side. If she still felt the same that's fine, at least she would be making the decision with a clear mind.

It should be the law that people cannot even begin gender manipulation treatment until they have passed puberty except in proven medical cases. We might also need to look at whether it is wise to be creating inter-sex people. The young girl had obviously not become a male otherwise she would not be able to change back and I wonder what part this fact has played on her mental health.

I agree absolutely! By all means young people should be supported emotionally through issues like this, but no operations or irreversible hormone treatment until they are old enough to realise the consequences.

We actually have a similar problem with one of our grand daughters.

She0s always been a bit of a tomboy (well, who hasn't?) copied her brother in everything, played football, did everything he did, boy wise stuff.

She now wants to be called Leo and has been having "counselling" before she wants to be a boy.

Her parents are at their wits end, as the school are involved and - with the parents knowledge, because she was 16 then - send her off to be assessed.

Her mum thinks she needs a bloody good talking to, so I said, send her over here, we'll sort her out.

It is seriously frightening, who gets to 25 or 30 and still feels the same about themselves as they did at 16?

I am not saying that nothing should be done, but I do think that things are being rushed with some people. There are plenty of stories out there where people have done the swap but now want to trans back. That raises a flag.

Maybe there should be an age limit as we have for voting, drinking, getting wed or driving. There certainly needs to be a cooling off period where the dial is turned down and things are talked through.

Jan, I have a cousin who was / is the same, but as she is four years older than me transgendering was never an option. She simply went about in boys and men's clothes, drank pints, played darts, smoked a pipe, wore a flat cap and got on with life. Everybody just accepted "him" and treated him as one of the lads.

Not many people. To encourage young people to make life and body changing decisions before they ar fully mature is totally irresponsible. Imo they are being used as pawns by the Trans rights lobby.
Don't get me started on Trans rights! "I identify as a woman, therefore I am a woman".
No, you really aren't.

In my book you are either male or female from birth
To much interference from so called professional people who get on the band wagon
no wonder kids are confused
And parents
Kids should be kids
Not grown ups aged 10 or such

I quite agree. I don't know why some doctors tolerate such nonsense.

I completely agree that the current focus on letting those who have not passed puberty and who's hormones have not settled, to make life changing changes, is insane.

However I don't agree that people are one or the other from birth. I have one niece who has gone through the entire change and it was a case of lose her to suicide because she couldn't cope any more, or have her change and be settled. I know which one I'll choose.

But, then again, she made this change in her late 30's after trying to retreat into drugs for more than a decade to avoid making this decision.

People are different and gay/transgender are very different. There needs to be some level of tolerance, but children need to be protected until they are adults and able to make an adult decision. That part has never changed, although political pressure groups would like it to.
