The DM 'attack' is ridiculous, though, Clegg was in short trousers when Smith was (allegedly) abusing young boys. Smith 'retired' in 1992 when Clegg was still roaming the globe as a reporter shortly after finishing his formal education. Talk about the DM clutching at straws.
