Change in US world stance has begun

Postby Suff » 17 Mar 2025, 06:41

Outside of the whole Ukraine negotiations drama, the US has started to attack the Houthi's. Not throw a few missiles at launchers, they are taking out people and weapons stock.

The US statement is that the Houthis will no longer be allowed to attack the US navy with impunity and they will not be allowed to dictate which shipping will travel through those waters.

The secretary of state has clearly stated the action will go on as long at it takes to ensure the Houthi's no longer have the capability to carry out these attacks.

At the same time they warned Iran that supplying the Houthi's will be seen as a direct act of aggression against the US.

Also Today I saw an interesting talk by someone who had direct knowledge of the Trump deal to withdraw from Afghanistan. Trump told the translator "Tell him that if one US soldier dies I will kill him". The translator was a bit taken aback but relayed it. Then Trump took a picture out of his binder hand handed it to the Afghan leader. It was a surveillance picture of his home.

The Biden administration is gone, the mad dog is back.

... the mad dog is back.

The leader of a pack of mad dogs, and the world is a more dangerous place because of it.

We need to hang on to our hats for the next three and a half years and hope they do not kick off wars, or a world war, and then hope that sanity returns.

Actually the people I note talking war and continuing war and escalation and confrontation are the European countries of NATO and the EU.

Strange how it is spun.

Stopping the war will require someone to back down. Ukraine backing down is not something I want but reality today is what it is.

I would support stopping the war today and changing the situation to make it untenable for Russia to remain in Ukraine over time.

What I don't support, as an ex soldier, is hundreds of thousands of people being fed to the meat grinder for no other purpose than the status quo.

It certainly is! Back when it started you hawks were going to kick Russian arses back to the border no matter what it would take so that they would not pull a similar stunt again. The meat grinder was not a problem back then as the Russians were going to be taught a lesson.

Today???

Putin always wanted a land corridor to Crimea through the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts, and that looks like what he will get; plus a couple of power plants. Trump and the US get a host of minerals on the cheap and possible control of Ukraine energy infrastructure. The two of them divvy up Ukraine despite what Ukrainians want.

If only we had accepted reality and talked at the start, as some of us said, but No, we were going to kick-ass. It all worked out so well, eh?

And my view on that has not changed. I would like to see them get their ass kicked right back to Russia and stop doing this as a warning to every other country who has this idea that the world map can be changed from the barrel of a gun in the 21st century.

What has changed is that I have realised that nobody in the west or NATO is willing to fund Ukraine or supply enough weapons to Ukraine to achieve this.

In that scenario the only possible route left is to negotiate and settle this for now.

Why do I say for now? Well it won't go any better than Versailles. It is absolutely guaranteed that hostilities will flare up again. If you don't settle the core issues then you will never have real peace.

Mind you the Riyad talks just ended because the Ukrainian delegation refused to meet the Russian one. Each time they do this they lose another sliver of support in the US.
