That might be because Michelle Obama is said to be considering running. He wouldn't want to go against the Missus.

The other side of the coin is that Barack Obama is not exactly flavour of the month with Democrats nor the public at large, and hasn't been for some time. It might make little difference.

Harris will want to become the Presidential candidate and her supporters in the party will not want to see a woman of colour play second fiddle to a white guy again.
Set against that she is not very popular.

Trump is nearly murdered and it fails. Shortly after Biden suddenly gets Covid, rapidly vanishes after and then a rather dodgy document appears electronically stating that he has withdrawn. No statement, no appearance, nothing.

I recall the response to a Potus post on X by Elon Musk "to whoever is running this account".

The situation right now is interesting. Biden hasn't turned up and confirmed this post. People are beginning to question it. Although there is a faa notice for VIP transport from Delaware which went up today. Also an all hands critical white house staff meeting today.
