Last time I looked New York was not in the EU, but hey, never let a chance to blame the EU for everything go amiss, eh?

It's a global problem shared between the countries the illegals are coming from and those where they are heading to. They all need to work together to try to solve this, but thy are not. We already have treaties and international laws to combat this, but nowhere is applying them.

That is largely down to the pearl-clutchers, hand wringers and bleeding hearts brigades who throw out the racist card if anything other than the softest of action is taken.
