NATO (US) cluster bombs in Ukraine.

I worked with them in Desert Storm and they are not nice. They are in a similar league to land mines - long lived and indiscriminate, even if used correctly.

Used tactically they can take out airfields, command and control centres and ammo dumps. Let's hope that is what the US and NATO restricts them to.

Russia also has them and they have already used them in civilian areas many times. Please do not escalate this, it will not go well.

I do support Ukraine, but I am not uncritical about what NATO is doing.

The UK has one of the world's most potent CB weapons but we, thankfully, are keeping it at home.

Joe Biden will fight til the last drop of Ukranian blood.

Sorry, but I hate this war. It is like WW1 has been brought into the 21st century. It's unthinkable. Brutal, cruel, awful. Imo this is a proxy war inmbetween the USA and the Russians; and Ukraine is paying the price.

Ukraine has an elected democratic government on the western model.

When Russia, a superpower, attacked in full force, Ukraine asked for help. In fact they asked for help during the build up.

There are two outcomes of this war. We support Ukraine for as long as they ask or Russia wins.

If anyone thinks Russia winning is a good thing I have one word.

Lebensraum.

It is as simple as that.

Cluster bombs are inherently unstable, with a large number of bomblets not going off as intended. Some fail (on purpose?) while others are anti-personnel munitions and are designed not to go off until approached - proximity weapons - It is why they have such a bad name.

Ukraine will be using them on its own soil and against well dug in Russian troops in forests, derelict outbuildings, woods and fields. Any unexploded bomblets will be almost impossible to clear away - same as land mines - and could be killing innocent Ukrainians even in decades to come. One weapon makes an area of over one hectare unsafe.

We have seen many times how unexploded WWII bombs can do so much damage even 75 years later.

Lebensraum.

Ah, yes, they said that about the death camps too in the 1940's. Until they won the war and found them.

What happened to never allowing this kind of thing again? They have already found evidence of mass murder and mass torture when the Russians were pushed back.

So, no, I won't give it a break.

Cluster munitions can be cleaned up with sufficient resources. Dead people cannot be made to live again.
