The media are to blame.

The poor woman went missing by the river on the 27th of January. However, because she was pretty, and a woman, the media jumped on her disappearance with day upon day of speculation - did she fall in, was she pushed, has she been abducted etc.? It has been the headline story ever since with little nibbles of "what ifs" but no real news.

It now turns out that the police had attended a disturbance at her house a week or so earlier because, sadly, she was suffering menopausal depression and had alcohol issues. According to the head of the independent search and rescue effort had those things been known from the off the search would have gone very differently. And so the media speculation begins again...

I cannot imagine the hell her family and friends have and are going through because of all this media coverage. People go missing all the time so why this one instance was made a star story is a mystery.

It is a mysterious case, no doubt; but the level of speculation has gone off the scale. In trying to put some information out to cure some of the more fevered theories out there the Police have maybe revealed a bit too much about the lady's personal troubles.
I hope the family can gain some definite resolution out of it but there are no guarantees.

24x7 pressure to provide 24x7 news. I have been trying to avoid giving them clicks but, unfortunately, an overwhelming number of people are glued to the story and want every second of speculation and twaddle.

We had this situation with the depression in our family resulting in me having to take a 2am call from my son and give him advice and talk him into some steady action. They had both been drinking and drink helps nothing.

I feel for her and all her family but I will NOT follow this story in the way the press and media want.

The media are to blame.

And the Daily Mail whipping the story up every day are the biggest culprits of the lot. And would hold them responsible for all the amateur sleuths and ghouls pestering the beleaguered population of that village.

One big mistake in my book though was bringing in that self-serving diving expert who seems way too fond of his own voice ......

There hasw been a lotof TV showing the police searching the river.
But no mention of any searches of the fields and surrounding area or finger prints on the phone, dog harness or bench.
I wonder if any clues have been missed or trampled on. No mentioned of searches upstream.
THere has been too much publicity.
End of story.
