Conspiracy theories

The latest ones are that billionaires are busy constructing a world order that they approve of, using "the climate emergency" as a cover.
In this world of the future ordinary people will be much worse off and billionaires even better off.
Ordinary folk will have less money, own less, fly to go on holiday less and have a restricted diet with much less meat and dairy.

All rubbish, right?
Well maybe not so much. After you've finished buying your new heat pump, new plumbing and radiators and upgraded insulation, you'll certainly have less money.
Also if you buy an electric car.

According to all sorts of people, flying is going to become more expensive.

In the Netherlands the government is trying to "reduce nitrogen emissions". To do this they need fewer animals on farms, in particular cattle which means less beef.

This has led to protests by the farmers unsurprisingly, as many farms will have to close. In one protest last week the police shot at one young farmer with bullets striking his tractor.

I doubt that the BBC led the six o'clock news with that last one.

Then today we hear of dairy shortages in the UK and increased prices for dairy products.

So there you are. Less money, less flying, fewer holidays, (proles only, billionaires still have their private jets), less meat, less dairy.

These conspiracy theories, eh?
Why do they seem to be coming true?

For those of us who remember fuel subsidies on flights and even ferries and train journeys, this is not really anything new in terms of travel. If fuel finds itself in the situation of the oil crises with prices doubling in a short period of time, then things are going to get way more expensive.

I was flying regularly when Easyjet came in. Nothing less than £250 Edinburgh London return, usually £350. Then Easyjet arrived, £29/£39/£49, remember that? No allocated seat no drink or meal, but you did get both handbaggage and checked baggage free.

You could book well ahead and get that £29 each way. It completely revolutionised the whole flying experience. Now, due to fuel prices, we may be returning to a pre "low fares" market. This is no conspiracy, just the fact that companies can't make a profit if the fuel costs too much and inflation is too high. This is what happens when you hit 10% inflation but the last 2 decades have set expectations that flight prices hardly move.

As for the Nitrates in Holland, I've been following that elsewhere. This is not a new situation, what is new is that they're doing something about it. Much of the farm land in Holland is reclaimed land from below sea level. That means the water circulation is pumped and therefore has physical limits. Nitrates are a real issue. When one of my niece's was born they had to have bottled water for her because the cottage had well water and the nitrate levels was orders of magnitude too high for a baby.

Yes the billionaires will keep their position and yes we will suffer the cost of overpopulation and over farming the land with chemicals.

As for the Dutch police shooting at a tractor? Dutch police have guns as routine, as do all the other police forces on the continent. They also have an attitude to people who threaten the police and it is not our attitude. Mrs S and I watched the Dutch police setting up to remove squatters from a block of flats. Full riot gear, batons and absolutely no nonsense.

This kind of stuff is going to happen more and more as the climate changes. I'm going to watch, the people can do what they want about it but unless it is WWII style emergency action to alleviate the impact, they're going to suffer from it. Me? I'll probably be dead so my interest is purely in case I'm not dead when the SHTF.
