Yes, but whose messaging?

The Government is not baying for lockdown, it has reintroduced masks in places where a vast number (in the case of London millions), of people come in close contact on a daily basis plus a few more restrictions, especially on travel.

The other messaging, pundits, press and even devolved parliament leaders, are all spouting their own messages. But the government message actually remains the same. If there is a reason to take a precaution (omicron would seem to be a good reason), they will. Then they will monitor. If it makes no difference the precaution will be removed.

All the rest of the messaging? Well if you listen to everything everyone says, then you will go round in circles till you disappear up your own rectum. Really!

The problem is not so much that the Government messaging is crap, it is that people, for a couple of decades now, have a maniacal focus on knowing everything "anyone" has to say about stuff they are interested in. The press and media have clued in on this and supply drivel for them to consume.

They're confused. No wonder. OFF button. Works a treat. News aggregator. Also works a treat. Headlines? No thanks.

On Monday there was a meeting of SAGE where it is claimed in the minutes that: "The impact of the Omicron variant on the UK is "highly uncertain" but may require a "very stringent response" because there is a "potentially significant" wave of infections while data on the variant is collected and analysed.

The above flies in the face of what Javid said on Tuesday: "There is no need to call off Christmas parties despite the emergence of the Omicron variant", (he had the above information from SAGE).

Actually it doesn't.

"highly uncertain" is exactly that. Governments do not take a "very stringent response" on a "highly uncertain" outcome of a "potentially significant" problem. Governments take the advice of these bodies, put it into the perspective of running the country, work out what might be a proportionate response whilst waiting for the data to be collected and analysed; then act.

SAGE don't have to make policy, face the people or act. They just have to look at stuff and say "Yeah, might be a clusterfuck, suggest you act as if it is".

Workingman wrote:And earlier the UK Health Security Agency head, Dr Jenny Harries, said people should get their booster jab but also suggested they should not socialise "when we don't particularly need to".

Then, During a Downing Street news conference, also on Tuesday, the Johnson urged people to get a jab and suggested there was no reason that companies should be considering cancelling their annual staff Christmas parties.

Mixed massaging par excellence. They cannot all be right. Only time will tell.

When Covid was running rife, there was no vaccine, the UK was plummeting into a second wave and there was no viable response apart from simply not socialising with other people, it was quite sensible to cancel everything. However in 2021, with a double vaccination and boosters being implemented now, this situation is entirely different. It has been fairly clear that socialising with colleagues and going to work events is both beneficial and "important" for the mental health of the working population.

On the other hand going down the pub every night and getting blasted, without a mask and being packed in like sardines, falls into the "not important" bracket.

This is not a mixed message at all. Only the interpretation.

If you spell it out people say you are nannying them and treating them like idiots. If you don't spell it out, a whole section of society just go on acting like idiots. Catch 22. In the end you have to treat people as if they have a functioning brain. Even if they don't.

Or riots !?

Yes, probably both. BoJoke just announced the introduction of the plan B he was never, ever, going to implement.
:D :D :D

Have yourself a solitary Christmas. Let your lunch be light, for next year our troubles will be out of sight. From now on our lockdowns will only be when we think they're often and right.

"Mr Mop-head, the balloon combing clown" is currently doing far less than many heads of the EU.

What are we supposed to call them? I mean we have Napoleon lite here but what about the rest?

Yes but it is not only the UK who is listening. The whole world is listening and what they hear is that the UK is a risk.

Whether or not that is true.
