Now there is a gentleman running in the French National Elections called Eric Zemmour. He is a Gaullist and a Bonapartist, and generally an all-round good egg (some say).
He is more Trumpist than the Great Donald himself, is currently knocking the Wicked Witch Marine Le Pen into a cocked hat by hoovering up all the far right wing votes, and is tipped to be the guy to run off against Macron in the Presidential Election next year. He has modelled his political career using Macron's populist tactics, and come from nowhere to be up at the front with the Haughty One himself.

Now our Monsieur Zemmour doesn't like the Brits. He has said, in a speech in Normandy, that the English are France's "greatest enemies for a thousand years". In this, he's obviously displaying more truthful tendencies than Donald, and overall, if he makes it all the way to the Elysee Palace, it could indeed lead to "Interesting Times", as the saying goes.

Are you going to vote for him, Suff? Where does he stand on the EU?

Nobody does. He's a bit iike a Brexiteer, n'est-ce pas, they don't like us either. :D :D :D

But he does not want uncontrolled immigration, legal or otherwise, (from Africa and other areas), and on that point he gets my vote. We need more politicians like him.

There have been a couple of articles on Zemmour in The Spectator. He is a pieds noir, of a French settler family in Algeria. He does not like militant Islam and is very lucid on that subject; nor as WM says does he like uncontrolled immigration.
All French politicians are anti-English, or at least pretend to be. If they weren't it would probably cost them votes.
I like the sound of him.

Ossie, I don't have a vote in France in the elections. You have to be a citizen for that.

That being said, he appears to be a journalist, author, rabble rouser and trouble maker. He has been in and out of court and still has a case or two hanging over his head.

He is a racist, bigot and, for all I know, a misogynist too. I don't vote for racists or bigots because I don't like racists or bigots. Notably there are people I would vote for that the Woke community "call" racists and bigots, but are not.

He is on record as not being for Frexit. Mainly because it played against Le Pen in 2017. Essentially Frexit voters inhabit both the left and the right of the spectrum. But right wing non Frexit voters won't vote for a candidate that wants to leave the EU and left wing Frexit voters won't vote for a right wing candidate. Was that clear? So he has put himself up as a French Supremacist within the EU. A position a lot of French think is their god given right. Reality is entirely another thing. Even worse for France is that Zemmour, should he win, would break the Franco German alliance because the Germans would not work with him.

Which could be far, far, more damaging to the EU than a Fexit.

As for being violently against the UK? He say's he's a Bonapartist and De Gaullist. We put one in jail and probably killed him off, the other never EVER forgave us for saving his countries ass; not once but twice. He couldn't say anything else and be even the slightest bit credible.

Does he have a chance of winning the election? Not a cat in hells chance. Will he derail Le Pen? That is to be seen, Le Pen has proven that you can't win the French Presidential election without riding a fine line between the right and the centre. She has been courting the centre for a long time now. Zemmour will hoover up the very far right wing votes, but will it be enough to see him into the second round? I don't think so. In that case the right wing vote will chop back to Le Pen in the second round.
