As soon as you can say "Boo"....

.... you must start to censor yourself.

Future generations will have to do it about everything they think, do, write or say, because one day anything and everything will be brought back to haunt them.

It is already happening in modern life, and not just for those at the top, where things said or done in previous years, even decades, are being used to prevent them from getting all sorts of positions in work and in public life.

Hands up anyone who has ever sung along to Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Oliver's Army. You're toast! Boy are you going to get hauled before the Admissible Language Court!

Still one of my all-time favourites ....

And at what point do we ask Mick to delete all our history on this forum, I wonder? :D

Seriously, though, think twice before you hit "Submit" has been my policy for a number of years now - not that I always remember to do it, mind - and I do re-read posts and self-edit where I think appropriate. But the trouble is, what I think appropriate is these days increasingly unlikely to be what other people think appropriate. But I am a product of my generation. IMO, it is another "thin end of the wedge" attack on personal freedoms, and I am getting increasingly concerned where this is all going to finish up - especially if we get a Labour government, because if we do, you betcha the PC thought police will be out in force (q.v. Birmingham City Council under a Labour administration 2005-2010)

I honestly do not think it matters which political party comes to power, it has become a societal thing. Those who are driving what we think, do or say are already deeply embedded in politics, business, education, entertainment and the media.... especially the last two.

Maybe the backlash will come from those most affected - the youngsters themselves - an inside job. That is what happened with communism.
