Antisemitism.

Postby Workingman » 10 Nov 2019, 09:57

A lot is being made about a member of Labour's shadow cabinet supposedly singing "Hey Jews" to The Beatles' song Hey Jude on a coach trip last year. OMG! Hang him, quarter him, burn him at the stake, scatter his ashes to the winds.

FGS, it's time to get over ourselves.

Antisemitism has its roots in 19th century German "Judenhass" - the hatred of religious Jews and those who claim Jewish ethnicity - and to them being 'removed'. It eventually led to the Holocaust: this doesn't even come close. And, BTW, anti-Zionism - being against the Jewish state of Israel - is a totally different thing and can be easily be justified, though not when used as an excuse for violence.

I was brought up in a strong Roman Catholic and Judaean community and most of them would have just laughed this 'Hey Jews' thing off. Maybe those 'professionally' outraged should revisit the lyrics.... and get a life.

Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

Naa, na na na, na na na na, na na na na, hey Jude
and on and on.............

We also need to stop lumping 'Antisemitism' in with 'Islamophobia'. Islam is a religion not a race or ethnicity, it is a belief system and lifestyle. It is perfectly justifiable to be critical of it, just as it it is with any other sky being(s) or tooth fairy adherences. All of us should have a right to call out such nonsense without being accused of as being 'phobics.

Politics is a dirty game and this is no different imo.
It's a straight numbers game. There are more than three million Muslims in the country but only around 300,000 Jews. Where are the votes?
Historically the Muslim community has supported Labour and Labour don't want to lose that vote.
I'm not saying this to be hateful or controversial, it's a conclusion I arrived at a while since after talking to Muslim co-workers and looking into demographics.
