There you are in the control room when a report comes in of a 'domestic'. The caller even has a recording of the trouble, so you log it and prepare to send officers to investigate.

Any problems so far? No!

So the cops turn up, speak with the people causing the screaming, slamming and banging and eventually decide that there is no cause for concern.

Isn't that what is supposed to happen?

Well of course it is, but wait. It's Bojo and his new bit of skirt and the press get wind and run the story. Cue all the faux outrage and let's bring in Brexit as well - it's the real reason the cops are there. Lets do all the deflection we can to defend the alleged abuser, it is, after all, what we do with all such cases, isn't it?

Well "No it isn't" and many similar stories get reported in the media. Thankfully this incident just turned out to be a row, sadly many are not and I for one am glad that the police do not have the option of which to attend or ignore.

"Oh, it's only Boris going off one one again, leave it, what else have we got?"

Actually, if the press have it right, it was not Boris going off on one. Not if what I have read is correct.

Then we have to ask just how the press know all this? Tell me, is it standard procedure to record an argument, call the police then shop around the press to see who is going to pay the most for the recording?

After all this is Boris and Brexit.

Erm, I seem to recall the police urging people to report suspected domestic violence / abuse. How those people collect their evidence is up to them.

Whether Boris and his supporters like it or not he is in the spotlight, and the side of the media that is not in love with him will sift through everything he says and does (has said and done), just as they do with Corbyn. It is entirely up to him not to give them ammunition, because sure as hell if he does they will report it. He has, and they have!

With Bojo's personal motto appearing to be "Foot! Aim! Fire! Again!" it is probably best for him to lock the gun in a secure cabinet at home and throw the key away.

I am all in favour of people reporting domestic violence to the Police. I see the impact of long term domestic violence and also with the fact that the one thing a normal person cannot do is become enraged about it, it is counter productive.

I am totally against someone then selling said "evidence" to the papers because one of the people involved in the "dispute" happens to be a contender for the PM of the country.

In this case, I am certain, it was not Bojo who instigated the fight and that it was not him making the vast majority of the noise. I'm also certain that his shouting was in response. Perhaps, with hindsight, not the best move given the current situation. But then again Bojo has never impressed as the best strategist in the world. That accolade would probably fall to Blair in recent memory. Something to think about. Blair would never have been caught out in a "domestic" shouting match, but the consequences for Cherie would probably have been 10 times worse than those of Ms Simmonds.

Now here is the critically important point. The press have been blathering on, for days, about how this has critically injured Bojo's chances. Because they've been "talking to people". Well they haven't been talking to the ONLY important people. The 160,000 people who have a vote on his future. I can tell you, without a single shred of a doubt, that my mind has not changed and I doubt that many others have in that grouping either.

This time the "liberal left" press can't win, can't fatally damage Boris and, over time, will disgust those voters. Add to this the By Election in Wales, which is going to happen some time shortly after Boris is elected and we're going to see some critical polling. That polling is going to say that if "we" elect Hunt, Farage is going to win hands down. If we elect Boris, the result may not be so sure.

BTW, did you see the press interview with Ms Simmonds ex?
