Whats the point of Twitter?

My friend set me up on Twitter yesterday. I now have half a dozen followers, 4 of whom I have never heard of so have blocked. A friend who has said 'I don't use Twitter much though" and the friend that set it up for me, who has just sent me a tweet to say 'you have to follow me now"

I am just about to delete it, but thought would ask if there is any point to it?

I've had a good look at it before now, but really don't 'get' it so haven't bothered. Here and Facebook is enough for me :? ;)

I like Twitter. You get plenty of information and news on there. I recently had a little conversation with Lord Sugar, and often tweet with Kay Burley and Richard Osman and all the local politicians. You also get all the alerts from local police groups about scams and about road traffic accidents.

Twitter: voyeuristic and narcissistic nonsense.

"I have just made a coffee but it is too hot so I will let it cool down before I drink it. What is your coffee like? I will be back later to t #hotcoffeecooldown"

Oxygen thieves also wasting electricity and bandwidth.

"ell you how it was. it was sooo good. Got to work now, boss is in. #hotcoffeecooldown"

Rodo it was the information that appealed to me but it seems to get buried in rubbish.

If you 'like' the relevant pages on Facebook you also get that information, on the whole.

I actually use Twitter far more than FB. It really depends on who you choose to follow....like Rodo I follow local news things and weather things, very helpful if you are travelling as the road closures are flagged up. Try finding a few of your fav celebs to follow MM, they usually tweet funny stuff (again depending on your choice of followee) which might make you smile and may feel like retweeting.

WM's analogy could equally have been lifted from FB, minus the hashtag. Twitter is what you make it, as is FB, but you can have conversations with famous people on Twitter as Rodo has found. It really all depends on the people you choose to follow....they don't have to approve you, unlike FB, so you can reply to them at will.

It's just a very useful site, I find. And not to be ridiculed.

I use it to follow news things - local police, council, parish council, local and national news, National Housing Federation, my favourite authors - stuff like that.

I don't actually post on it myself (I have nothing of any interest to post!) but use it for getting up to date news.

I also think it has an important role - I suppose it depends on what you use it for.

I have deleted it. The followers freaked me out :o :o

I can look at local news, roads etc online. I don't want to follow anyone famous, I feel bad enough I don't have time to talk to all the real people in my life as it is

Personally I find far more rubbish on Facebook than I ever find on Twitter. On Facebook, there are loads and loads of those picture things and adverts about dogs and you have to plough through all of this before you ever find anything worth reading.

Each to his own though. I shall continue to use Twitter because I like it and other people will do what they want to do.
