Following on from Saundra's fab wedding photo thread I thought I'd keep the marital theme flowing.

When Don and I married we exchanged gold bands.

About 10 years later I was doing alot of work in our garden and had taken my ring off for safe keeping.

I never knew how it happened but somehow my wedding ring had fallen onto the back lawn, out I come with the Hovermower, tra la la, and promptly ruin it with the blades of the mower. I was so upset.

Off we go to get me a new ring and of course I fell in love with a lovely thick platinum band that just happened to have centre stage in the jeweller's window.

Yep..Don dug deep into his wallet that day!

He's never, ever taken his wedding ring off his finger. It's got a slight kink in it where a football stud stomped on it.

John doesn't wear a wedding ring, my original one was a 14kt plain gold band (Americans seem to like 14kt for some reason, opposed to our 9) but I went off wearing gold and only wear silver so I just wear a silver band which is about 8mm wide, and I bought it from Debenhams in the Bullring
As I said in the photo thread though, I bought my wedding ring the following day and for the actual marriage ceremony I just used a gold ring I was wearing.

In fact, I've just remembered the reason why I didn't have a ring for the ceremony - I was scared of jinxing it and going there with a ring and then not be able to get married.

I only ever wear silver too Jo..but as Don had gone and bought 2 gold bands I couldn't say anything.

It probably didn't occur to him to buy me a silver or white gold ring.

John's probably never noticed what I wear, and I don't think I ever remember him going out under his own steam and buying jewellery for me

My wedding ring is platinum, but I sometimes wear my mums which is a very red gold or my nan's which is yellow gold. I also have my nan's engagement ring, my great grandma's engagement ring and my mums eternity ring. So I mix and match. I don't have a particularly soft spot for my wedding ring, but I would be devastated to lose my mums or my nan's

I threw my first wedding ring away when we split up - he went to live with my 'friend' With hindsight I should have sold it I kept the engagement ring as it was a very pretty antique Victorian dress ring with a raised setting - very unusual, but eventually it wore so thin that it was beyond repair........My second set of rings I have kept - the engagement ring is yellow gold with a beautiful black sapphire, and I thought Becky might like it one day.........

Mick and I exchanged rings but he never wears his I don't take it personally, he just doesn't like jewellery and never wears any! Mine is white gold and the engagement ring is white gold with a yellow gold raised setting, with a solitaire diamond in it.............. I've had them altered a couple of times due to weight loss and gain, and often take them off in the house as they tend to irritate my finger for some reason, and never sleep in them for the same reason

Julie, my sister, and I talked it over when Mum died and decided to let her rings go with her.............she'd never taken them off in all those years and we didn't want her to meet up with my dad again not wearing them......daft I know

We bought matching 9 carat yellow gold rings in H. Samuel in Oxford Street in London, loved them as they were unusual then, with a pattern cut into them rather than engraved. After less than a year, Mr. Osc's ring cracked along one of the "cuts" and buckled out of shape. Bear in mind that he worked as duty manager in a hotel, hardly a job where rings would be under pressure, but Samuels were having none of it insisting that it must have been subjected to a severe blow. They just about repaired it after a lot of hassle, but refused to give him a refund or a new one. A few years after we came back home, and when the ring was wearing down more and more, we had it remade, but the jeweller who did it said it was a very poor piece of gold. As the years went on the ring wore more and more thin, and eventually five or six years ago we decided to get him a completely new ring. There is a terrific Italian jeweller where we live, and between us all we designed a lovely brand new ring which Mr. Osc now wears. My ring is still absolutely perfect after just on 41 years. My engagement ring is 18 carat with three diamonds, I don't wear it every day, but I have an eternity ring which has diamonds and emeralds and I wear it all the time. My wedding ring just never gets taken off my finger.
