Why do we

become friends with certain people?

I've just "friended" a bloke on fb.

Yes, I do know him - but it made me think.

I. nor Grumpy, really know him, only met him once, but he lives not too far (well, about an hours drive) from where we're hoping to move to.

Him and his lady are trying to set up a yurt business and although they're not really (well, she is, he's not) the sort of people I'd really become friendly with - why do we?

I think, in my case, I like S, he's okay, I can cope with him, but he was making comments about what they were doing and I couldn't reply, as we weren't "friends".

Now we are, I'll probably ignore him, most of the time 8-)

But what makes us like some people and not others??

And yes, I do understand the principle of being a mad English abroad and sometimes you make "friends" with people you wouldn't dream of being nice to in blighty - and to be honest, I normally steer well clear, but I like what they're doing and I like S.

Ton, I think that you hit it in your last sentence - you like what they are trying to do and you like S.

Isn't that enough? Why analyse it to the nth? Sometimes we click, other times we don't.
