it's so frustrating - online data

I'm looking to replace my car between now and the end of the year - and it seems that so many websites (and it's not just cars - all sorts of products) ask you to put in additional data if you're trying to get just that bit more info on something specific, and then it's not long after completing all the fields you know you'll end up with a phone call from a sales person.
I know they're only doing their job, but equally I'm just trying to gather information so I can narrow things down
If I wanted to speak to someone, I'm quite capable of picking up the phone myself.
sigh - just a mini vent for the day

deep breaths and patience are called for
When you get the phone call act confused
Works every time

Indeed. I first ran into this on one of the big motor insurance comparision websites, can't recall which now.
They phoned me on the landline downstairs while I was still upstairs on the PC browsing their website ......

I use a throwaway e-mail addy, a random post code somewhere near, a made up name and a false phone number..... but all the other details such as DOB are correct.
It is naughty of me, I know, but hey, it's a game.

Put my mobile number in. it is switched off unless I am actually using it.
Got a phone call last night which was a marketing call. When I phoned it it said it did not accept in coming calls. So will use that in future. That will fox them.

There seems to be a lot of cold calling going on at the moment from a range of "0203*******" numbers. We are ex-directory and telephone preference service, but we are still getting quite a few. When you answer, there's initially nothing, so it sounds like a computer generated dialing system - we immediately put the phone down. People have reported numbers in that range as being the You've Got A Microsoft Problem scam, and also accident chasers cold calling.
We don't bother answering the phone now during the daytime. If it's a genuine call, they can leave a message & we'll get back to them .....
