Am I in the wrong?

The traffic is very heavy and slow moving, in both directions.

Up ahead a bus is trying to turn right out of a junction and a Range Rover traveling in the opposite direction to me is trying to turn right into the same junction that the bus is trying to escape from. The Range Rover is causing a blockage behind....

As I intend to turn left in to the road the bus wants to get out of I indicate, move slightly to the centre of the road, and flash my lights at the bus and RR. The bus comes out and the RR then turns in and we all get going again. The whole thing took but a few seconds.

However, the car behind me also turns left and then, in a quiet side street, overtakes with a load of beep beeps and the finger.

He probably made up his lost few seconds by breaking the speed limit as he overtook me.

In those circumstances, I'd have done the same as you did, especially in slow moving traffic - keeps things flowing, it's just common sense. But there's always some eejit who takes exception, isn't there?

And also, as a matter of course, if I'm faced, say, with a bus "coming the other way" and it's him or me past a blockage, I'd give him priority. Bus drivers have a difficult job at the best of times, and schedules to keep, so I do tend to favour them.

I'm getting a bit cautious about flashing lights, though, these days, as it can be misunderstood. I do tend to back it up with an appropriate gesture .... :D

Sounds sensible to me, but unfortunately a lot of drivers think they should have sole priority over all other traffic and have severe anger problems
I do get cross with people but never ever angry or reactionary.

Bb got whacked today - the car, not him :(
He was going slowly, in a line. There are two entrances to the car park he had just come out of. A car coming towards him decided they didn't want to wait in the queue for the 1st entrance, pulled out to go round the car in front of them and straight down the side of our car :(
Then tried to tell him he was 'in the wrong place' :?

I haven't been out to look Ossie - white paint right down the side of both doors at least

If it's just a "paint transfer", you might be able to carefully clean it off and buff out any scratches. I hope so, anyway.

I hope Bb is OK (I'd be spitting! ). It's a right pain when that happens ....

Most drivers, I would say, but they are the same ones screaming "let him out you idiot" when it suits them.

Di, hopefully the car and Bb are OK having come across their 'road owner' and that you are all OK.

I do not wish him/her any harm, but I would enjoy a bit of schadenfreude if it happened to them and cost them a few £s.

Not in the wrong at all Frank - it's what most / all of us would have done. The other driver was just being a rude and impatient $%&£%^ (not allowed to swear on here you see) ;) Would be interesting to know how many point he has on his licence

Di, I am so sorry - that is just so very very frustrating: I'm assuming Bb is totally fine. I hope the damage to the car is very superficial; did Bb get the other guys' insurance details?

Oh yes he's fine, thank you :)

Yes he got their details and has been on to our insurance co.
Not going to do anything about the car yet in case either insurance co needs to come and take a look at it ;)
