For an ambulance to be sent to treat a drunken person?
Last night we met up with old friends and went for a "Boogie night" disco at a local motel. Whilst waiting for our taxi at the end of the night an ambulance pulled up, we were told to clear out of the doorway and a girl was helped to the ambulance by her friiends. She was so drunk she couldn't stand up and had to be half carried.
I know her friends must have been worried about her; obviously they would be happy that she was being checked over and looked at, but an ambulance?
I can't clearly state why, but it just seems wrong to me; excessive somehow.

It depends........if she was 'just' drunk then no, but if she had alcohol poisoning and needed to be pumped and put on a drip, then yes of course she eneded an ambulance.
It doesn't make it right, a young girl getting into such a state is terrible, but you can't leave them to collapse and possiby die
I wish I knew why kids feel they need to get into such a state to have a 'good time'..................

A complete waste of money, but as Kaz says they need to be treated. Personally I think they should be sent the bill for their treatment and pursued until it is paid.
On a personal note that would have completely ruined my night

A taxi would never have taken them.
Perhaps she was diabetic? There turns can look like drunk. But yeah, I'd say she was drunk. At the least they should hav to pay the ambo ride.

Wrong, but right as well.
If anything had happened to her the trolley chasing lawyers would have done their utmost to prove it was be the NHS to blame. However, I would make these drunken idiots pay back every penny.

I'm another who thinks that in cases like that there should be a bill sent for the use of the ambulance, staff and all treatment afterwards.

I also think that they should be sent a bill if they are "just" drunk.
I do agree that the ambulance should be called - someone could think that a person is drunk when they actually have something wrong with them, or they could have had their drinks spiked.
But if they have just gone out and got slaughtered then they should be made to pay any costs incurred. It might make them think twice next time.

Me too.....how daft
Definitely an ambulance required, they are health professionals and there to save lives....a young drunk girl such as you describe is liable to fall into some kind of alcoholic stupor, possibly death, and of course that needs stopping. But I agree they should pay for it.
