Appliances that is...

I bought a new washing machine 4 years ago and it's broken. The issue is with the drum and to replace / repair the fault will cost about £200 or so; probably more as the entire drum needs to be replaced. So frustrating so here we are now looking to have to buy a new machine. But this time round I'm going to bite the bullet and spend a bit more and get myself either a Bosch or AEG; not sure which yet. As much as I'd love to get a Miele, they are just to expensive....

Mine's an Indesit washer/dryer, bought when I moved into Bb's flat in January 2003

This one that just broke is an Indesit Di. A really good machine in many ways; but just frustrating that after 4 years it's broken

When the electronic control unit (ECU) went on my washing machine a new one was almost as expensive as a whole new machine - so that's what I got. It is madness!

exactly Frank - the machine before this one had a problem with the ECU and as you say; it was cheaper to buy new than fix. Absolute and utter madness

I had a fairly expensive LG last time but it was a bit of a pain, with all of the electronics, and the wash cycles were all really long! This time I got a cheapy old Beko and it's great! Very easy to use, plenty of shorter wash cycles, does exactly what you need, and I won't feel guilty scrapping it when it goes wrong as it was so cheap to buy in the first place I'd never buy an expensive one again now

Same here, Kaz, as-cheap-as-chips Candy with physical dials and buttons to press. Does as good a job as any others I have had.

Stick with dials they are easier and creeper to fix. Look on YouTube, it might be an easy fix you can do yourself , I've fixed mine twice now costing only $80 all up for a new part. New machine here are $1200

Do you have consumer guarantee law covering warrenty's? Ours stats for the reasonable expected life of an appliance, so I'd expect a washing machine to last at least 10 years, but maybe some problems after 5-6 years, so company's have to warenty to 5 years, though they try and get away with 2 years.
