Never again.

I had a cataract op on the 1st of May, what an experience, there were five old ones like me who went in for surgery I awaited my turn. Each one was in raptures on their return, "never felt a thing" "marvellous I can see clearly" they all chirped.
My time came, I lay upon the couch slightly anxious then it started, the pain was excruciating just like a pneumatic drill being driven in my eyeball
It took two strong male nurses to hold my feet down, and a nurse gripping my hand that I am amazed I never crushed. I thought I was going to pass out. I was wheeled back to the ward in shock was given a cup of tea and a biscuit. I cannot fault the nurses and doctor, I assumed they had not given me enough local anaesthetic .i have not really recovered my own doctor stated he thought I had gone into shock as I felt so ill and was literally blind in that eye up until around a week ago. I shall keep the cataract in my left eye, I am too frightened to go through that again. Why Me I Wonder  :?

Oh poor you Kate xxx

As for your other eye, well I had both eyes done, but mine were done under general anaesthetic, I was far too cowardly to have them done under local. I can honestly say it was the best decision for me. I'm surprised you weren't offered this choice given how nervous you were, definitely worth insisting on it when you feel brave enough.

I am so sorry that you had a horrid time Kate, most unusual I would say going on the reports of others :(

Perhaps it is worth considering having a GE for the other eye, as Jen suggests ((((((((((((x))))))))))))

 Thanks friends... I am so frightened until I felt the excruciating pain, I was quite relaxed that was until the doctor started.
My own doctor reckoned I was in shock when I went to him for more eye drops and the blood test results. Trust me to be the odd one out.!!!

Kate, there's always one, and I do not mean that in a silly way, but there is. Not everyone reacts in the same way to anaesthetic.

I would think that after what you have told us the eye people will have no objections to a GE.

Kate,
Sorry to hear your op did not go very well.
I am going to have a cataract removed in July having had the pre-op on Monday.
Is your eyesight any better?
