Another broken bone?

L is in plaster up to her knee. I'm hoping its only temporary.

We went to our local Minor Injuries unit and they xrayed it but couldn't see anything so sent us off to the A&E (though I did go to work between the two hospital visits!).

The nurse looked at the xray and could see a shadow on the bones on top of the foot, just below the ankle bone. But she wasn't certain that it was fractured. She got the radiographer to look at it and he said the same. They can't say it is fractured but whatever they saw isn't "normal". So they've made an appointment for us to go back and see the bone man tomorrow

But to be on the safe side they've put her in a cast.

I am praying that it isn't fractured or she'll be in cast for our holiday in Cornwall. Again. At least last time it was her arm in cast which was so much more manageable. The nurse did say that they might put a removable boot on rather than a cast.

Poor L, she is just so unlucky at this time of year.

There is not much they can do with the small bones in the foot, as I found out with the bike accident. If you see the breaks some footballers suffer they often get one of those removable boots, so hopefully L will be lucky, that's if she actually has a break - hopefully not.

When I had the broken bone in my foot, I was in a cast for a week, then the boot for five weeks. The boot was fine and can be taken off at night in bed. But then I wasn't an active teenage girl

They put the pot on this afternoon as a temporary measure. Just in case.

It's really heavy L says but that's because it's temporary.

Tomorrow morning it comes off again before we see the bone man. Then I think if it's broken she'll have a proper pot and if it's not broken she'll have a boot (I'm only guessing at the boot as she needs something as she can't put her heel to the floor).

I'm hoping my neighbour, the radiographer, is right and it's the ligament not the bone.

The bone that they think the problem is with (it showed up as a "smudge" on the X-ray) is very difficult to break and it's a pretty rare injury.

I'm keeping everything crossed. Though I know that torn ligaments can take longer to heal than breaks.

Blimey Debih poor L and poor you! :(
Ligaments do indeed take much longer but thankfully you're encouraged to move it about with those.
Fingers crossed xx
