A nice surprise for my sister

A couple of days before my dad died, he gave my sister his necklace. He'd always told her it was hers and that he wanted her in time to pass it on to S.

He wasn't really one for jewellery (despite his love for bright clothing) but years and years ago he found a fish necklace. The fish is probably around 1.5 inches in length and it moves as each piece of the tail is joined on separately to the tail (I can't really describe it very well. But it is very nice). He wore it every day after he found it - so for at least 30 years - wearing it for work, in the sea, everywhere.

My sis took it to the local jewellers today to get a new chain for it and they were all very interested in it - the three valuers/repairers coming out of the back to take a look at it. It is gold (not gold plated as my dad assumed) and is very rare. They said that it is worth at least £3,500.

My dad would have been gob-smacked!

What a cracking discovery for your sis. and indeed the whole family.

To think that your dad was wandering about with a small fortune round his neck and one that, as we all know, could have been lost at any time. How many necklaces, brooches and rings fall off and never get seen again?

I bet it will now become a treasured heirloom, and one with provenance to boot - there is a story behind it.

Debih,
Any chance of a photo please.
Have you got it insured separately on your house insurance.

I'll ask her to send me a photo of it to show you.

Cruiser - she only found out today so no at the moment it isn't insured at all. But I'm sure it will be by Monday.
