E Coli Urine infection UPDATE

I am putting this here, as it is the men I am aiming at and not sure they frequent the health board.

Have any of you ever had the above, or have any of the ladies husbands had the above?

Tim is really poorly with it. Has been in bed for 4 days, although dragged himself to work, for three mornings, but home in the afternoons and straight back to bed.

On Weds he was shivering so hard he looked like he was having a seizure.

He is on antibiotics, has been since Tuesday night, but it still in agony when he passes water and still feels achey although he did eat a bit yesterday.

Just wondered if anyone had any indication how long the pain should last as that is my biggest concern. When I have had cystitis, the pain has gone within 48 hours at the most

Miasmum,
As a mere male, I have never had any problems with my water works.
I have to get up several times in the night but this is a problem with old age--21 + VAT. No problems with the flow and no pain.
Hope Tim soon gets better

So sorry for Tim, MM. Yes I had such a long while ago but did not experience much pain. Mine was confined to the bladder/prostate and I think his must have gone elsewhere. I came over and saw a urologist at St Mary`s several times he recommended several antibios at different times but none seemed to work and on the last visit he microwaved my prostate. It had now gone on for three or four years and I eventually tried the max recommended dose of erythromycin and ciproxin and after about two months dosage was clear. It has never returned. I presume Tim has seen a urologist and hope he is soon better.
Incidentally one doc I saw reckoned I had a fistula to the bowel but X=ray showed not.

Thanks all.

No he hasn't seen a urologist Ped. Just the GP twice. Dont think they see any reason to refer for now, as hopefully just a one off infection

Sorry for Tim, Shell, but I can't be much help either. When I have had minor UTIs it has been a case of low-dose erythromycin and plenty of fluids, mainly water and fruit juices.

When I was in hospital recently, when my bike injuries became infected, I was on alternate doses of Flucloxacillin and Clindamycin. My diet was severely restricted - no dairy except a few eggs - and my fluid intake was monitored..... and my output tested.

Sorry, but I can't help on this one, as, (touch wood), I've never had
any problem with my water works.

Hope he gets cured quickly.

Oh sounds horrid!

One of Mick's nephews - the one who is now a teacher in China - had e coli quite badly about 10 years ago, he was lucky to make it (intensive care, dialysis the works) but I think that was an altogether much more serious infection than Tim has. I hope he feels better soon Shell (((x)))

Because he was still going to work, the GP was quite firm with him Kaz. She said this infection should be treated seriously. It can back track up to the kidneys causing pyelonephritis and you can end up in hospital on IV antibiotics. I think she frightened him a bit. Not enough to stop him going to work on Friday but enough to make him take notice,

He is a bit better tonight, thankfully. He is downstairs and has eaten a little bit of dinner. He has been more himself this evening and he says that is because the antibiotics are working, I say it is because he has been in bed resting all day allowing them to work
